Sunday, Sept. 28 is a very special day to come together as family, friends, acquaintances and clients to support Don Vowels. A fundraising picnic is on tap to provide the necessary income Don will need while he is undergoing Chemotherapy for a recurrent cancer.
His journey for a second cure began at the end of July. Ironically, Don is once again dealing with the stress of illness and practicing the coping techniques he uses to treat the many patients he counsels for similar crisis.
Our community is so fortunate to have Don providing peace and understanding to so many in his practice of counseling and psychotherapy. He has a natural gift of healing that began more than 30 years ago. In between the overwhelming days of enduring chemotherapy, Don is committed to continuing to provide care to all of his patients. Unfortunately, this is becoming more and more difficult with each treatment.
For the past seven weeks, friends and family have volunteered their talents and time for companionship and comfort. Others have provided many nourishing meals for Don. The outpouring of generosity has been wonderful and necessary for Don to overcome these trying days.
Louis and I are now committed to gather the financial support Don will need as he completes his therapy.
The fundraising picnic will be held at Heuser Health, a place well known to Don, where many friendships were born while exercising. We plan to celebrate Don not only as our brother and friend, but acknowledge and give thanks to Don for all the many clients and patients who are now living in peace because he provided the tools for them to learn to live in the moment.
Please feel free to stop by, bring your favorite dish and a lawn chair. Play volleyball, cornhole, and enjoy a day just for Don Vowels. If you feel you can provide a donation, it would be greatly appreciated. Checks may be addressed to the Don Vowels Wellness Account.
The picnic is from noon-3 p.m. at Heuser Health, 2040 Metal Ln. (off River Road at Edith Lane). Drinks will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there.
We love you, Donnie, Peggy and Louis Heuser
