The 58th Trinity Invitational cross country meet, the state’s oldest invitational cross country meet – and one of the nation’s largest – was held at E.P. “Tom†Sawyer Park in Louisville Sept. 20-21.
The high school portion of the event commenced on Saturday with nearly 60 schools from six states participating.
This year the total number of competitors in all races combined was approximately 1,800. The Trinity Invitational was sponsored by Nike this year and was one of only a handful of high school events sponsored by the company. Gatorade also has emerged as a major sponsor, giving the event additional national notoriety.
In the boy’s varsity race, Alec Thomas (Brentwood High School) finished ahead of Taylor Caldwell and Aaron Thomas, both also from Brentwood High School to win the 5000m race.
In the girl’s varsity race, Bailee Deane (Cane Ridge High School) beat out Kelcy Welch (Carmel High school) and Whitney O’Bryan (Daviess County).
In the boys junior varsity race, Colin McMahon (Carmel High School) triumphed over Zach Horowitz (Carmel High School) and Vincent Turner (Trinity High School), while in girl’s junior varsity race, Samantha Miller (Carmel High School) beat out Chandra Dykstra (Carmel High School) and Lucy Allan (Carmel High School).
