Louisville reporters are invited to North Oldham High School on Monday, Feb. 10, to hear about an effort to send a large shipment of critical medical supplies and heartfelt messages of support to war-torn Ukraine.
Â
The shipment, valued at almost $300,000, includes lifesaving medical equipment such as infant warmers, surgical instruments, IV pumps, and other supplies specifically requested by Ukrainian health care workers who are struggling to keep up with demands as supplies dwindle.
Â
The shipment will also include 200 stuffed animals for hospitalized children in Ukraine. North Oldham students added a special touch by tying uplifting messages to each stuffed animal with colorful ribbons.
Â
Workers at the Louisville-based nonprofit SOS International are currently gathering essential medical equipment and packing it into a 40-foot container for shipment to Ukraine. Once the equipment is packed, the stuffed animals will be added to any remaining spaces.
Â
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and the Kentucky Chapter of the United Nations Association-USA contributed toward the project following initial fundraising efforts led by groups in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
Â
Before the container is sealed this month, religious leaders will hold a small ceremony to bless its contents.
