We’re going to take our time and enjoy this summer – but we’re also looking forward to the end. That’s because the last Saturday in August is Best Dressed 2012, The Voice-Tribune’s signature event.
In the coming weeks, we’ll dish about the details – at least a few of them – and we’ll reminisce about the Best Dressed events of years past. Those who attended BD2011 will recall how the Best Dressed committee’s Creative Director Douglas Riddle meshed influences from brilliant late designer Alexander McQueen with high-flying acrobatics and gorgeous movement from the members of the Louisville Ballet. People are still talking about Laura Lee Brown and Steve Wilson’s dramatic interpretation of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face†and models suspended above the audience at BD2010.
In the days ahead, we’ll also continue to reveal our nominees who will walk the runway on Aug. 25 at the Louisville Marriott Downtown. Thus far, this year’s candidates include Anabel Valdez, Cindy Carcione, Lynda Lambert, Hanna Benjamin, Erin Macdonald, Sarah Brown, Ali Navigar, Webb Blevins, Dr. Jerry & Karen Buchanan, Mark & Lainey Jurich, Dan & Margaret Woodside, Suzanne Whayne, Charity Beck-Ghali, Winny Wearren, Kevin Gibson, Adam Lefkoe and Hunter & Margaret Woodside. Turn to B2 for our newest crop of nominees.
And soon we’ll name this year’s benefiting charity because Best Dressed is not only about honoring people for their style, it is also about acknowledging people in our community who are willing to help a great cause along the way – and their own personal passions.
Last year, we fielded calls for tickets to Best Dressed up until the hour before show time. We hated to turn people away but capacity is capacity – and we expect to fill it and then some all over again.
