River Fields Keeps On Partying

Dancing by the River is the major annual fundraiser for River Fields, the 53-year-old land and river conservation/preservation organization. This year it will be co-chaired by Bob Kulp and Inez Segell, who hosted a very successful event kick-off cocktail party in June.
There will be a tent by the river (or at least within hollering distance) at the corner of Lime Kiln Lane and River Road where Big Goose Creek flows. It is in the heart of Louisville’s only state-designated scenic corridor.
There will be cocktails, dinner, dessert, a live and silent auction and dancing on Friday, Sept. 7, from 7 to 11 p.m.
Tickets for the buffet dinner, dancing and dessert are $200 per person; dancing and dessert only, beginning at 9 are $75. Dinner is by Mark Stevens of Stevens & Stevens. Dessert is by “Deserts by Helen.”
The evening is sponsored by Brown-Forman Corp. and Stites & Harbison PLLC.

On Wednesday, Sept. 19, Henry’s Place will host an evening of fine wine and cuisine at its second American Brigade wine dinner featuring Majestic Fine Wines. The six-course dinner will begin at 7 and showcase the Pan-European cuisine of chef Charles Reed. Each course will be paired with a selected wine from the Majestic fine wines portfolio. The menu features roasted lamb saddle St. Nicholas, heirloom tomato tart, gorgonzola and natural au jus with WindRacer Anderson Valley Pinot Noir, 2007; followed by Brentwood corn consommé with Jerez cheese straw and Arrowood Sonoma Chardonnay, 2009; then Persian lime sorbet with summer melon, sangria and sweet lychee with chocolate mint. The fourth course is a roasted Peking Duck Ballotine with summer pole beans, beech mushroom, caramelized spaghetti squash and pommes boulangeres in rainier cherry and duck demi-glace and Stonestreet Fifth Ridge red 2006, Farrier “Presshouse” Meritage, 2008.
The fifth course is a St. Michael Oyster salad, buttermilk blue cornmeal coated and fried, Vidalia onion chutney and butterfly tuile cracker with Solletico Prosecco. The sixth course is Banana Moon Pie with Marse Henry’s Couverture Chocolate Truffle with Arrowood Late Harvest Riesling, 2007.
Henry’s Place is located at 4864 Brownsboro Center. The menu utilizes the brigade de cuisine system and showcases Pan-European fare, handmade pastas and seafood dishes. Henry’s Place is named as a nod to the influence and sophistication of historic Louisville resident Henry Watterson and is open for dinner Monday through Saturday, 5 p.m. to closing. The new art show at the Brown Hotel runs Sept. 14 through Nov. 2. It features Lexington painter Anne Kindl in a solo show, “Symphony in Pastel.” She designs for ACT, UK and the Breeders’ Cup. A reception will be held from 6 to 8 on opening day.

Missy Buschmann was out for a day of shopping with her husband Will. Little did she know that when she got home and walked in the house that it was full of friends shouting “Surprise!” The street was filled with cars and Missy thought the neighbors were having a party.
They are expecting a baby boy soon and Will had a surprise up his sleeve. While others decorated the upstairs nursery with all sorts of useful furniture, an artist came in and painted a giraffe on a tall narrow wall. It is adorable.

Everyone was enchanted by Terry Kelley and his balloon sculptures that he made for children and adults. They were spectacular! You should have seen his Noah’s Arc! The menu Will planned included an entire roasted pig from Shack in the Back Restaurant with all the trimmings along with mac and cheese, corn, green beans, and spectacular cupcakes for dessert from Louisvillelicious. People ate, drank and had a wonderful time. Missy was surprised and she had a grand time too.
