The Troll Pub Under the Bridge

The madness has finally left the KFC Yum! Center. But just underneath the bridge by the venue lies a restaurant sure to become a mad house this March.

The “newest underground adventure,” otherwise known as the Troll Pub Under the Bridge, will offer one of the best seats in town to watch all 15 games left in the 2012 NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament.

With 23 different 55” TV’s and a 100” high-definition projected screen, no seat is a bad seat for viewing the hottest action in college hoops this month.

I checked out the venue with coworker Chris Humphreys to test out the menu and atmosphere inside the 135-year-old L & N building. After hopping off the trolley in front of the KFC Yum! Center, we strolled down to the eight-and-a-half foot troll looming over the entrance of the dark dungeon below.

Lined with brick and complete with a hidden dining room – the “Bookcase Room” – the Troll Pub is the perfect place to experience an out-of-the-ordinary setting while enjoying a variety of food and drink, including American, British and Italian fare, as well as beer and specialty cocktails.

I sampled the Duck Spring Rolls with duck confit, carrots and Napa cabbage rolled in spring roll wrappers before devouring the veggie burger with a side of kettle chips.

Meanwhile, Chris tried The Smushroom, an Angus patty on a brioche bun with swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms and a dollop of mayonnaise.

Overall, the food was absolutely delicious, and even better, I had the chance to view my favorite ESPN show – “ESPN First Take” – in a room filled with more TVs than I could count. I can’t wait to go back to see the place packed with diehard UofL, UK and Indiana fans when the teams take the court this weekend.

In case you need a reminder, the 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament Sweet Sixteen will begin this Thursday. The No. 4 seed Louisville Cardinals will take on No.1 seed Michigan St. at 7:47 p.m., while the top overall seed Kentucky will square off against another local contender, No. 4 seed Indiana, on Friday at 9:45 p.m.

One of the best aspects of tournament time is the people you watch with and where you watch. So, if you’re still searching for a locale to catch every angle of the action, just look below to the Troll Pub Under the Bridge.
