Our Mother Of Sorrows

The weekend before Good Friday is always bittersweet for the Fryars. Bitter because it’s the last weekend of the year where most Frys are serving, but sweet because we know we got another Fryday to enjoy some good eats and company. So we took our talents to Our Mother Of Sorrows for the last official Fry of the 2014 Challenge.

Fish: OMOS serves an extra-large fillet on your choice of bread, which for veteran Fry-goers is always rye, but what sets it apart from the pack is what comes on the sandwich: delicious, homemade jalapeno tartar sauce. Regular tartar is also available for those that don’t feel the need to spice up their Fryday.
Fryars’ Score: 4.5 fish

Beverages: Fried fish and cold beer on a Fryday night is the combination that keeps this tradition going strong every year, and OMOS didn’t disappoint. Ice-cold domestic cans were a good pre-game for the Fryars making their way down the street to the Spring Game.
Fryars’ Score: 3.5 fish

Sides/Dessert: Some of the richest, creamiest mac n’ cheese you’ll find east of I-65, and all the Fryars enjoyed the freshly dumped crispy crinkle fries. OMOS also boasts a mean rolled oyster, and if you’re still hungry, or even if not, delicious homemade desserts.
Fryars’ Score: 3.5 fish

Venue: Ideal location right off the interstate, accessible parking, and plentiful seating give this Fry a high score here. The Fryars felt right at home in the roomy cafeteria, filled with the aroma of deep-fried heaven – everything a Fish Fry should be.
Fryars’ Score: 4.5 fish

Friendliness: When you arrive at OMOS, don’t rush to the serving line. Put some play in your day and treat yourself to a “split the pot” chance from the cheerful volunteers at the entrance. Too full to move? A dessert tray was wheeled through the tables, so make some room.
Fryars’ Score: 4 fish

Overall: OMOS puts on a nearly flawless Fry in all categories. The Fryars were grateful for the hospitality, the generous workers and delicious food. And, of course, the jalapeno tartar sauce. Well done.
Fryars’ Score: 4 fish

Next week, we’ll crown a 2014 Fish Fry Challenge Champ! Stay tuned!
