The Fifth Annual Fish Fry Challenge is a wrap, and the Fryars thank all the parishes and volunteers that made this year another success. Each year, we honor one Fry as our Champion. Past winners include St. Bernard, St. Raphael, St. Patrick and St. Lawrence. Before we do so, we give a shout out to the Frys that excelled in our categories:

Best Fish: Guardian Angels. Two fillets that are thick and crispy. The batter provides the perfect amount of crunch and just enough hint of pepper.

Best Sides/Desserts: St. Joseph. Loaded baked potatoes, stewed tomatoes, and at .25 per, basically all-you-can-eat hush puppies, along with some of the best mac n’ cheese you’ll find.

Best Beverages: St. Patrick. Excellent selection that includes draft microbrews, along with your favorite domestics. St. Pat’s keeps ‘em flowin’!

Best Venue: Our Mother of Sorrows. Ideal location and plentiful seating. Roomy cafeteria is very cozy. Perfect set up for a Fry.

Most Friendly: St. Lawrence. The Fryars were delighted to see last year’s winner keeping it lively in Shively.

Best Overall: Guardian Angels. With arguably the best fish in town, delicious sides including creamy mac n’ cheese and homemade brownies, reasonably priced ice-cold domestic beers and a group of volunteers that keep things efficient and cheerful, Guardian Angels is among Louisville’s best Fish Frys. Congratulations to the Fryars’ 2014 Fish Fry Challenge Winner!
