Reds Blanked On Opening Day

Yadier Molina hit a home run in the seventh inning on Monday’s season opener to lead defending National League champions the St. Louis Cardinals to a 1-0 victory over the Reds in Cincinnati. But it wasn’t all Molina as the impeccable pitching of the Cardinals’ Adam Wainwright and his sinker allowed only three hits and notched nine strikeouts, allowing no runs. The shutout meant the Reds were blanked on opening day for the first time since 1953, ending the second-longest streak of scoring at least one run in openers in major league history.
