Lady Cats Claw Out a Win

The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team defeated rival University of Louisville in the Bluegrass Battle last Sunday. The Cardinals had the 42-29 lead heading into halftime, but the Wildcats stormed back, and outscored Louisville 48-26 in the second half to claw out the 77-68 win.

Kentucky’s Janee Thompson led the scoring with 19 points on the night. Also adding  to the big scoring numbers for the Wildcats were Jennifer O’Neill with 17 points, and Linnae Harper with 12 points as well as eight rebounds.

Leading the Cardinals’ effort was freshman forward Myisha Hines-Allen, who racked up 17 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double.

Kentucky shot 45 percent (27-60) from the field, while Louisville shot just 37.9 percent (22-58). But Louisville was the better free throw shooting team draining 72.7 percent (24-33) while Kentucky made 66.7 percent (20-30).

Louisville moves on to play Old Dominion, Monday Dec. 15 at the KFC Yum! Center, while Kentucky faces Middle Tennessee State on Friday, Dec. 12 in Lexington.
