The University of Kentucky womenâ€™s basketball team defeated rival University of Louisville in the Bluegrass Battle last Sunday. The Cardinals had the 42-29 lead heading into halftime, but the Wildcats stormed back, and outscored Louisville 48-26 in the second half to claw out the 77-68 win.
Kentuckyâ€™s Janee Thompson led the scoring with 19 points on the night. Also addingÂ to the big scoring numbers for the Wildcats were Jennifer Oâ€™Neill with 17 points, and Linnae Harper with 12 points as well as eight rebounds.
Leading the Cardinalsâ€™ effort was freshman forward Myisha Hines-Allen, who racked up 17 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double.
Kentucky shot 45 percent (27-60) from the field, while Louisville shot just 37.9 percent (22-58). But Louisville was the better free throw shooting team draining 72.7 percent (24-33) while Kentucky made 66.7 percent (20-30).
Louisville moves on to play Old Dominion, Monday Dec. 15 at the KFC Yum! Center, while Kentucky faces Middle Tennessee State on Friday, Dec. 12 in Lexington.
