Trinity High School booked their place in the semifinals of the 6-A championship with a 9-3 victory over city rivals St. Xavier High School at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium.

The game, a defensive battle for long stretches and scoreless deep into the second quarter, finally saw a break in the deadlock when Rod-Jay Burns returned a St. X punt for 60 yards setting up a field goal.

Jailen Reed made life easier for Trinity head coach Bob Beatty when he scored in a 14 yard run sending the Shamrocks through to the semifinals.

Trinity won three state titles from 2010-2012, and  are now headed back to the State Semifinals after this win over the Tigers. Trinity will face off against Meade County (10-2) Friday night at 7:30 in Meade County.
