Million Mutt March

Lace up your shoes and grab your leashes! No Kill Louisville’s third annual Million Mutt March is set to take place this month in Cherokee Park. The 5K walk/run and 3K walk is set for Oct. 27 at Hogan’s Fountain, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Funds raised will benefit the pets and people helped through No Kill Louisville’s programs and services.

Registration is now open at or at Active sports’ website, Attendees can also register the day of the event from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. or simply come out and enjoy the disc dog demonstrations, the food and drinks, raffles, 50/50 cash prizes and the dozens of pet-friendly vendors who will be on hand. For the first time, they will also have pet costume contests – one for the public’s pets and the other for shelter/adoptable pets at 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The cost to enter is just $5 and winners will be chosen for “best dressed” and “most creative” pet costumes.

J.B. Ogle Animal Shelter recently announced plans to go No Kill by August 2013, and, as a result, JB Ogle will be the “featured shelter” this year. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet and interact with adoptable pets from the Jefferonsville shelter as well as other area rescues and shelters. Attendees are asked to bring wet cat, kitten, dog or puppy food for the Pet Food Bank which helps low income families keep their pets out of our city’s animal shelter system.

Because there is limited parking in Cherokee Park, No Kill Louisville is providing free parking and transport to and from the event. Simply park at Baptist Seminary’s back lots, located in the 2700 block of Grinstead Drive, and buses will transport you to the race, vendor and demonstration area. Buses will run from 7:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
