The Chic Sheet

What is your fashion view?
Fashion is a way to express yourself and your individuality – it represents how you feel and the mood you are in. What makes me feel confident isn’t necessarily the current trends, but it is instead what works best for me.

How do you describe your style?
My style is classic with a unique twist, such as accessorizing with statement pieces to embellish an outfit. I love to get dressed up and have my hair and makeup done for special events. However, I equally enjoy casual pieces like a pair of jeans, boots and a comfortable sweater during the cool seasons, and a sundress and flip flops during the warm seasons. I also like sparkle and flair, but at other times I like to be casual and relaxed.

What are your favorite pieces?
I am a Louisville native, so the Kentucky Derby is my favorite holiday. My Derby ensemble usually takes some time to coordinate though. I find my dress first, followed by my hat, and then my shoes and remaining accessories. My favorite pieces are my St. John Derby dresses and hats, which I enjoy searching for with my friend and business partner, David McGuire. I am also a big fan of Cole Haan heels because the Nike Air technology in the soles keep my feet happy. I also can’t forget my most comfortable pieces of clothing, which are my Juicy Couture sweats!

Where is your favorite place to shop?
I don’t have an absolute favorite because I enjoy all kinds of styles. However, I do love supporting local stores and boutiques in St. Matthews and Westport Village, such as Rodes, and Scout on Market has the best accessories. I don’t shop in department stores often, but when I do, I prefer Von Maur and Nordstrom. I also travel often and have the opportunity to find unique pieces that I might not find locally. For example, it is a tradition of mine to visit friends and family every January in south Florida, so for the past several years I have found my Derby dresses at St. John on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach.

Who is your fashion icon, and why?
I don’t have a famous fashion icon, but my mother and grandmother are an influence on my classic style, and I always utilize advice from my friends.

How does your perspective on life affect your style?
What you see is what you get – I am an open book and wear my heart on my sleeve. I enjoy going out on the town in Louisville, especially to the St. Charles Exchange. I am also proud and blessed to be a part of the remarkable transformation of Louisville’s downtown and Main Street development. However, I love spending my casual downtime with close friends, family, my husband and dogs. Lastly, it is amazing getting in my car, or on an airplane, and taking a trip out of town as well.
