Simplicity rules! I love Leonardo Da Vinci’s words: “Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistication.†I completely agree. Jason Jennings always tells me to stop in the mirror before leaving the house and remove one accessory. And when it comes to the rules, what JJ says, goes. Well, almost.
How do you describe your style?
Graceful chic, classic, elegant. I find it refreshing to see women who know how to dress for their body type. Nothing wrong with leaving a few things to the imagination. I’ve never been one for the in-your-face look when it comes to style. I love a perfectly tailored black dress with killer heels, and a strong dose of self-confidence. Sexiness comes from within, and I consider a smile to be the greatest accessory.
What are your favorite pieces?
A pendant and chain from the Madewell Boutique in East Hampton, my ruby red skinny jeans from 15 Ounce Denim, a modern fitted black blazer from Peacock Boutique, my gold Michael Kors boyfriend watch, my endless collection of bangles. I try to pick up a few from different travel adventures: a chevron patterned straw clutch from J. Crew, a casual army hat from a little shop in Breckenridge, Colo., my Rogan NYC jacket, and a long, flowing magenta maxi dress from Blink Boutique.
Where is your favorite place to shop?
Without a doubt, New York City. My sister Amy and I have probably covered every square inch of every borough, quietly browsing fun boutiques, and of course diving head first into H&M. Oak NYC, Rogan and Loomstate are a few favorites.
If we’re talking local, my loves are Peacock Boutique, Clodhoppers, Blink, 15 Ounce Premium Denim, Why Louisville, Chartreuse and Work the Metal. I am forever an advocate of shopping local and will preach it until I’m royal blue in the face.
Who is your fashion icon?
I love Lauren Bacall, because she’s just pure class. She shows you that you can be sophisticated and sexy at the same time. Her style choices are generally classic shapes with clean lines. But she also does sophistication with a great sense of humor and is known to be comfortable hanging out with the guys. Sounds like inspiration for the perfect modern woman to me.
What besides fashion do you have a passion for?
My passion is my family! I have two children and am a soon-to-be stepmom to three more – ages 9, 10, 11, 12, and 17! It’s a full house. As a mom, I feel it’s my responsibility to inspire their creative minds, to reinforce them in sports, to share strong morals and to encourage their endless humor and bravery. We’re a unique family and we’re really enjoying the process of developing our own traditions and defining our family values.
Rarely do I hear the words “I’m bored!†from our crew. We love jumping in the car and exploring Kentucky with the kids.
A few of our favorite spots are Mammoth Cave, Cherokee Park, the Iroquois Overlook, Schimpff’s Confectionery, the Speed Art Museum, the horse farms in Prospect, the Georgetown Drive-In and Polly’s Freeze. We live in such a beautiful area! It feels good to get outside and explore.
