Five Minutes with Steve-O

Steve-O will be performing in Louisville Oct. 16 – 19 at The Laughing Derby,

He’s done things to himself that you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy. He’s shown you parts of his up close and personal in ways that you might not have even seen on your own partner. He has a giant tattoo of his face on his back.

But you probably already knew all that – so here are a few things that you might not know about Steve-O, aka. Stephen Glover.

He was born in London. He has lived in five countries and speaks fluently in three different languages. He graduated the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Clown College. He’s been clean and sober since 2008. He lasted six weeks on “Dancing with the Stars.” He’s a vegan. He hosted a game show called “Killer Karaoke” for truTV. And most relevant to this interview, eight years ago he was asked to perform a stunt at a comedy club and decided to try stand-up comedy.

And he just might be the actual Most Interesting Man in the World.

I recently got to speak with Steve-O about his upcoming return to the Bluegrass State.

Chris Humphreys: You’re coming back to perform in Louisville for the second time, did you get to see much of the city when you visited before?

Steve-O: I don’t think so. I can’t really remember too well.

Humphreys: You’ve been headlining shows for four years. Do you think this is your calling or do you think you’ll move on to another medium?

Steve-O: Man, I’m actually trying to stop touring pretty soon. At least for a good while. My main focus is really on getting the best show going of the one I’ve got from this last four years, get a comedy special out and then take a break from it all and work on other projects.

Humphreys: What can people expect from your live show?

Steve-O: I’m rigorously honest. I don’t bullsh*t people with stuff that’s not true. I’m very shameless and candid about sharing really shocking and juicy stuff. And you know, I’ve had an outrageous experience in life and I think that it’s really interesting as well as hilarious.

Humphreys: Do you think you’ve learned anything from doing stand-up these past few years?

Steve-O: I think that its helped me further a sense of what is versus what isn’t entertaining. I’m an all around attention whore but I think that it certainly made me a more rounded performer.

Humphreys: Last year you came out with “What Came Before, featuring Steve-O: The Truth About Meat and Modern Farms” and more recently you took on Sea World, do you have anything else like that in the works?

Steve-O: No, nothing really in the way of that. I kind of try to be pretty sparing with the soapbox.

Humphreys: Anything else you’d like people to know?

Steve: O: I’m looking for this to be the last chance to come and see me for some time. I’d say that my stand-up, the whole show I’m doing, is really at its best. The show’s going to kick ass and I’m going to stick around to meet everybody after. The time to come see me is now.

See Steve-O live at The Laughing Derby, located at 1250 Bardstown Rd. at Mid City Mall from Oct. 16 – 19. You can view show times and purchase tickets here.
